The Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma invites you to the grand opening of the new Kickapoo Community Child Care Center in McLoud, Oklahoma, on Friday, October 30, 2026. It’s the first daycare in Oklahoma housed in a Monolithic Dome, and it was built with one goal above all: keeping children safe.

Join the celebration from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

In a state that averages about 90 tornadoes a year, the center’s staff used to rush infants in cribs and car seats to a separate storm shelter every time the tornado sirens sounded. Thankfully, they don’t have to do that anymore.

Their Monolithic Dome meets the FEMA definition of a structure that provides near-absolute protection. So, the shelter is the building itself. The 135-foot dome serves 103 children, from four months to 12 years old.

The dome was designed and built with love, and with community always at the forefront of the design. It honors Kickapoo heritage. Its shape echoes traditional Kickapoo winter homes, a multicolored band around the roof reflects Kickapoo beadwork, and paintings inside represent the Tribe’s clans.
