The first Monolithic Dome elementary school ever constructed is in Payson, Arizona. Originally the Frontier Elementary School it was part of the Payson Unified School District 10 until April 2013 when it was sold and turned into the private Payson Christian School—a K-8 academy for 230 students.

Constructed in 1996, the facility is three 120-foot diameter (36.5 m) by 34-foot tall (10 m) Monolithic Domes around a conventionally constructed center core containing the cafeteria. One dome is dedicated to classrooms while the second houses the media center and the third is a gymnasium/music room.

The facility is the first Monolithic Dome school designed by Rick Crandall.

Central Media Center.

The Media Center is the central core of one dome. Natural light floods the room from a skylight mounted at the apex of the domed shell. Smaller skylights allow natural light into the classrooms surrounding the media center.
