Designed and built by Chuck Peters, Cloudome is a two-bedroom, two-bath Monolithic Dome Home. It is an exquisite example of the design flexibility of Monolithic Domes. Using the local white pine on his property, Peters, a carpenter, did all the finish work. The home sits on 24 acres on Lookout Mountain in Georgia.

The dome is a prolate ellipse, 60 feet (18 m) on the major axis, 37 feet (11 m) on the minor axis and 27 feet (8 m) tall. The home faces almost due south to take advantage of the view of the spring-fed pond.

Cloudome’s energy efficiency is an added bonus. In fact, the home is so energy efficient that when it was first constructed, the power company sent crews out multiple times to replace the meter. “They have come and looked at it so many times; they thought something was wrong with it,” Peters says.

A spring-fed pond and gravel path lead to the dome, offering a peaceful and scenic approach to this mountaintop hideaway.
