Reeves County Recreation Center
The Reeves County Recreation Center—locally called The Rec—is a community fitness, recreation, and aquatic center in Pecos, Texas. “Our mission at the Rec is to provide the most comprehensive health, wellness, and recreational sports services to help our members and guests achieve their best potential,” said Dr. Geff Purdy who runs the facility. “With that, our vision is to pioneer a seamless integration of performance and fitness, nutrition, physical therapy, massage, medical, and childcare, along with sports and recreation, all under one roof.”
A conventionally constructed central core joins two Monolithic Domes. The larger Monolithic Dome houses the gymnasium featuring two full-sized basketball courts that convert into four volleyball courts—plus a walking track around the court. It is a hoop dome with a 160-foot (48.8 m) diameter by 31.5-foot (9.6 m) tall spherical dome atop a 20-foot (6 m) tall stem wall with a total floor area of over 20,000 square feet (1,860 m²)
The 15,000 square foot (1400 m²) steel and glass center core houses racquetball courts, a weight room, an aerobics room, steam rooms, saunas, a cycling room, smoothie bar, a reception area, staff offices, locker rooms, and even a child care center.
The smaller Monolithic Dome houses an 80-foot (24 m) lap pool, a warm water (80°F/26.6°C) therapy pool, and a hot water (90°F/32.2°C) whirlpool. It is also a hoop dome with a 111-foot (33.8 m) diameter by 22.5-foot (6.8 m) tall spherical dome atop a 20-foot (6 m) tall stem wall with a total floor area of over 20,000 square feet (1,860 m²) encompassing 9,700 square feet (900 m²) of floor area.
The Reeves County Recreation Center held its grand opening in September 2021.
