The Hansen School & Community Gymnasium was a gift by an anonymous donor for the community. The donor gave $1 million for the completion of a gymnasium and community center that would be owned by the Hansen School District and shared with the City of Hansen in Idaho. The design came through a “design-build” process where community leaders specified what they needed and contractors designed and bid on the specifications.

Dome Technology of Idaho Falls, Idaho, built the dome for $1 million with the Hansen School District contributing another $100,000 for some additional customization. The finished structure is a 120-foot (36.6 m) diameter by 20-foot (6.1 m) tall dome on a 13-foot (4 m) stem wall built using insulated concrete forms (ICF). The interior was finished with a full-size basketball court, twin volleyball courts, a 6-foot (2 m) wide walking path, an 1100 square foot (102 m²) fitness room, plus restrooms and preparation area.
